Double hung windows are traditionally used in hertage homes; however, can be adapted to add a sleek, elegant, contemporary feel. The unique thing about double‐hung windows is that both the top and bottom sections can be opened vertically and independently of each other with the use of spiral balances. This provides excellent ventilation as it allows the hot air to escape out of the top while the cooler air enters below. Double hung windows are a great choice for openings with restricted space as the window does not protrude outside of the window frame. They can be glazed in many different options including single glazed, double glazed and obscured glazing.
